Sheffield live previews – March 27 – April 10

Words: Tom Walton

The Steel City plays host to some cracking gigs over the next couple of weeks and Sounds From The Steel has cherry-picked a few of the best for you…

Cast – At The Leadmill on March 27

Starting this evening (March 27), Nineties favourites, Cast, hit up The Leadmill. Expect Britpop guitars at their loudest and a list of hits including Alright on the band’s 15th anniversary tour. On March 31 Los Campesinos! arrive at the nation’s best venue and their punky quirk pop fun always gathers a good crowd in the Steel – miss the mayhem if you dare.

The Clench – At The Shakespeare on March 30

The Shakespeare is holding a superb night of folk and blues on March 30 with In Fear Of Olive, The Clench and Roaming Son all gracing the stage while Sheffield stalwarts The Cartels are at The Plug on March 31.

The Motorpoint Arena hosts one of X Factor’s most successful exports in JLS on March 28 – we expect screaming girls aplenty. As we do the day after (29) as US rap chart topper, Drake, takes to the stage before the recently voted Artist Of The Decade (at the less publisized Classic Brits), Il Divo, will entertain a sold out arena on April 7.

Juan Zelada – At Soyo April 2

Monday night at Soyo is continuing in its fine form of recent gigs with rising jazz blues star Juan Zeleda taking the headline spot on April 2, which promises to be another big band spectacular after Renegade Brass Band made the venue shake last Monday. With support from a regular player on the SFTS stereo, Sreaming Maldini, this is going to be another night that tests Soyo’s foundations.

Finally, the week after (9), features the much talked about and Guardian endorsed Hatcham Social who are making the trip up from London, support comes from live Sheffield favourites, Pistola Kicks. Not to be missed.
